“Chasing the Light: Inside the Luminous World of T.C. Steele,” daily through Dec. 31, Haan Museum of Indiana Art, 920 State St., Lafayette — The Haan Museum’s newest exhibit showcases one of Indiana’s most revered artists. T.C. Steele is credited as one of the most prolific and highly touted painters in the Hoosier Group, a collection of like-minded Indiana artists in the late 19th century that gained national and global acclaim for their landscapes — often painted in Brown County, Indiana. The artists also worked in portraiture. Steele’s work caught the Haans’ eye decades ago as they built their Indiana art collection around some choice Steele pieces and now have a collection able to fill multiple galleries in their historic home museum. Their newest show, “Chasing the Light: Inside the Luminous World of T.C. Steele,” highlights pieces that exemplify the artist’s masterful grasp on light, whether it’s with rolling hills in southern Indiana or a human subject posed in gorgeous natural light. “Dreaming of Tomorrow” opening reception, 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, The Arts Federation, 638 North St., Lafayette — Mononymous area artist Nisreen will unveil her latest paintings and drawings in her solo exhibition, “Dreaming of Tomorrow.” The exhibit will feature “a vibrant collection of paintings that explore the depth of human emotions, the profound connections between humans and animals, and the beauty of cultural intersections in everyday life. Through harmonious colors and rhythmic shapes, each piece encourages viewers to reflect on possibility, hope and the shared human experience,” the artist stated. Works range from the dreamy to the semi-abstract to the realist. Nisreen earned her first degree from Zokei University in Tokyo in 2011 before moving to California for graduate school. Thankfully Nisreen stayed in the United States and has been an Indiana transplant since 2023. The show runs through Sept. 25.
México en el Corazón, 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette — México en el Corazón, or “México in the Heart,” returns to the Long Center again as a prelude to Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). The performing arts organization from Guadalajara, Mexico, mixes mariachi, dance and authentic costumes that showcase the country’s folklore. This lively, colorful event is free.
Mosey Down Main Street, 6-11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, downtown Lafayette, between Sixth and 11th streets — Scheduled as the last full-blown Mosey of 2026 – a smaller version was just announced for Oct. 3 – will feature the usual mix of live music, food, vendors, artisans, beer, wine and all that people watching. It’s been an interesting year, as it is the free street festival series’ first year without its co-founder Ken McCammon, who died March 6. (The Oct. 3 version is being billed as a Memorial Mosey for McCammon, spanning one block between Sixth and Seventh streets.) It was also one of the few years where weather was kind throughout the summertime monthly Moseys. Of course, that was just jinxed, but with McCammon’s memory and some Mosey magic, the last event of the year will be stellar and rain-free. Bands slated to appear include Indianapolis’ top surf rock band, Thee Leviathans (featuring members of the longtime Mosey shakers The Shake-Ups), and a 1990s Lafayette pop-punk reunion with The Mixelpricks.

Witch Knuckle and O.I.L. with Built from Ruin, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, North End Pub, 2100 Elmwood Ave., Lafayette — As the NFL football season quickly approaches, check out this preseason Super Bowl of sludge metal from the Doom Room. The Chicago Witch Knuckle will take on the Pittsburgh O.I.L. in a fierce sonic battle on the North End Pub gridiron. The scouting report on Witch Knuckle reveals a bit of a groove within their heavy riff playbook while O.I.L. pummels its opponents with its trademark “miserable downtuned Pittsburgh sludge” with songs that fit the O.I.L. acronym like “Ongoing Intense Loathing,” “Obtrusively Imbibing Libations” and, of course, “Obscene Incorrigible Lust.” New Lafayette metal combo Built from Ruin will provide the pre-kickoff entertainment. $10.

“Treasure Island” on the Wabash, 6:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday, Sept. 4-6, Tapawingo Park in West Lafayette – Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette is teaming up with the Wabash River Enhancement Corp. for a production of “Treasure Island” on a floating stage just off the banks of the river at Tapawingo Park. The shows follow on the heels of WREC’s recent Float Jam concerts that made their way from Davis Ferry Park to West Lafayette. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Performances are free.
