And now for …
By Tim Brouk / For Based in Lafayette
“GLAMOUR: Glow in the Dark Drag Show,” 9 p.m. Friday, March 29, Rat Pak Venue, 102 N. Third St., Lafayette — The drag performers from The Fox’s Den are so good they shine in the dark. What must be Lafayette’s first “glow in the dark drag show,” “GLAMOUR” will feature queens executing moves so impressive that your jaw will (death) drop. Bring your glow in the dark gear — and cash for tips — and cheer them on under the black lights and other effects that will enhance the experience. The show will be hosted by Veronica Fox and Anitta Schwanz.
Empty Graves with The Mound Builders, The Green Leaves and Boneburner, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30, Saturday, Eleventh House, 116 N. Third St., Lafayette — Eleventh House is quickly becoming one of the most exciting underground live music venues in downtown Lafayette. The all-ages space welcomes local and out of state bands, many of the heavy nature. Empty Graves, a brutally heavy band from Moline, Illinois, will headline a night of headbanging and ears ringing with its intricate guitars, throat-shredding vocals and bombastic beats. Playing its first all-ages Lafayette show in years, Lafayette metal masters The Mound Builders will lend its localized support along with Fort Wayne’s The Green Leaves and Boneburner, a metal act from Indianapolis. $10.
Clave Caribe, 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, People’s Brewing Company, 2006 N. Ninth St., Lafayette — It must be getting close to better weather and better times because Clave Caribe is back at People’s Brewing Company. Lafayette’s best Latin music ensemble performs a slew of different styles from South America, Mexico and the Caribbean. No matter what country the songs come from, they are all danceable and performed with skill from a roster of impressive players. No matter the weather outside, this will be one hot show. $12. Tickets.

Jazz Jam, 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, Knickerbocker Saloon, 113 N. Fifth St., Lafayette — April is Jazz Appreciation Month and once again, the Knickerbocker Saloon will commemorate one of America’s most cherished music forms with a weekly Jazz Jam every Wednesday night throughout the month. Instrumentalists and vocalists are encouraged to bring their chops to perform standards, improvisation and original compositions. The format is loose but impressive, and it adds to the Knickerbocker’s long legacy of offering its stage to local jazz musicians.
“Come from Away,” 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, Elliott Hall of Music, Purdue University — During the chaos of 9/11, numerous morning flights were diverted to Canada, essentially stranding thousands of travelers until the skies were deemed safe. The small city of Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed 38 of those flights to its international airport. The airplanes carried almost 7,000 passengers and crew in total. These temporary refugees were from all over the world and almost doubled the Gander population, which was about 10,000 Newfoundlanders. For the five days they were stranded, the weary travelers shared their stories, which fuel the plot and songs of “Come from Away” — an award-winning Broadway musical. The title stems from the “Newfinese” term for a traveler not from Newfoundland. While stress levels were high, these strangers in a strange Canadian province found common ground in music and the appreciation for life. Be sure to take a shot or two of Screech before the show for maximum enjoyment. $35-$75. Tickets.
