Halloween falling on a Friday is a booooo-tiful thing. Tons of events for all ages abound in Lafayette and West Lafayette. Here are just a few:
Halloween Bash, 4-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, 102 S. 10th St., Lafayette — With the beautiful backdrop that only the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette can provide, Halloween fun has never looked so good with trick or treats (4-6 p.m.), a set from local cover band No Rest 4 the Weekend (7 p.m.), and costume contests and karaoke (8 p.m.) headlining the spooky fun. Metheny’s Weenies, Odie Boy’s Kettle Corn and Rose Bakery will dish out the sweet and savory during the festivities. The event is free but donations to the art museum will be accepted.
The Operators and Moon Goons with Fergus Daly Band, 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Duncan Hall, 619 Ferry St., Lafayette — This all-ages bash will feature two of Indianapolis’ best with the spacey, garagey psychedelic sounds of Moon Goons and The Operators, an eight-piece ska band that is one of the finest in Indiana. Opening will be the rootsy, rocky sounds of Lafayette’s own Fergus Daly band. This “howl at the Hall” will also feature the scary good sounds of DJ Circle T before, between and after the bands. Kids ages 12 and under are free. Tickets.
Bootlegger’s Ball, 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 648 Bourbon & Cigar Lounge, 648 Main St., Lafayette — This Prohibition-themed party will offer prizes for best 1920s/1930s-style costumes while jazz saxophonist Chris Stone performs.
Postmodern Jukebox, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette — Led by pianist Scott Bradlee, the 2010s internet sensation Postmodern Jukebox will make its Lafayette return on Halloween. This is no trick, just treats for fans of old-timey and current music. Familiar tunes by the likes of Miley Cyrus, The Spice Girls and Bruno Mars get retro arrangements in the styles of hot jazz, big band music and early blues. The New York band thrives from early 20th century music but the takes on pop tunes are impressive as they are hilarious. Huge congratulations to the Long Center for snagging this show. $39-$79. Tickets.
Francois Dior, Tommy Sors and Scott Hooten, 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Knickerbocker Saloon, 113 N. Fifth St., Lafayette — A trio of local musicians will present solo sets as the Halloween shenanigans commence at Indiana’s oldest bar. Costume contests and giveaways will be held throughout the night.
Kostume Karaoke, 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Curley’s, 3269 Teal Road, Lafayette — Show up in your finest costume and sing all night. $5.
Halloween Dance Party and Costume Contest, 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, The Spot Tavern, 409 S. Fourth St., Lafayette — Several local and regional DJs will spin you into Halloween ecstasy. Indianapolis’ Winnie will open and close things out with some beats of the chiller variety while Lafayette’s own Karabella will be joined by friends Ariel Strike and Timber for some proper dancing. Also on the bill are Urban Essence, a bass DJ from Indianapolis, and Kiefer Ian, a Chicago garage DJ whose music is a current take on old-school Chicago house music with some New York and New Jersey club music influences.
Karaoke and bingo, 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 6th Street Dive, 827 N. Sixth St., Lafayette — Sing all night and win prizes via bingo and/or a costume contest.
Halloween Bash, 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, Nine Irish Brothers, 119 Howard Ave., West Lafayette, and 3520 Indiana 38 East, Lafayette— The West Lafayette Nine Irish Brothers will hold a costume contest with prizes and giveaways between singer-songwriter Matt Hill’s sets. The Lafayette Nine Irish Brothers will feature Detroit musician Gerard Smith.
Potter’s Market, 10 a.m-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, Central Presbyterian Church, 31 N. Seventh St., Lafayette — It’s difficult to let the spooky season go but Christmas shopping waits for no one. The talented artists in the Greater Lafayette Clay Guild know this, which is why they launched their Potter’s Market before you even bring the jack-o’-lanterns inside. These bowls, mugs and other vessels are perfect gifts for the holidays and last longer than any gourd.
Xperimental Dance Concert, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, Dance Studio Theatre 1179, Pao Hall, Purdue University — Ten student- and faculty-choreographed pieces will highlight the latest Purdue student-produced X-Series dance concert. The program will feature large-scale numbers as well as smaller pieces in the styles of modern, hip-hop, ballet and improvisation. This intimate dance show will feature talents from all majors around Purdue. For decades, the Purdue Dance Program has offered STEM students a creative outlet and a chance for dancers to continue their skills through college. $5 (cash only).
Lafayette Roller Derby vs. Glass City Rollers, 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, 1406 Teal Road, Lafayette — Your Lafayette Roller Derby Supernovas will close out its home schedule with a brutal bout against Glass City Rollers, all the way from Toledo, Ohio. $12. Tickets.
Molested Divinity and Desecrated Ubiquity with Severed Headshop and Embodied Torment, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, North End Pub, 2100 Elmwood Ave., Lafayette — It’s not often when international death metal bands visit Lafayette, which makes this upcoming Doom Room production so special. Tourmates Molested Divinity and Desecrated Ubiquity are in the middle of traveling the highways of the United States all the way from Ankara, Turkey. Opening will be grindcore act Embodied Torment from Sacramento, California, and South Bend’s headless headbangers Severed Headshop. $10.
