Lafayette Jeff’s WJEF-JEFF92 celebrated the big 5-0 Friday, marking the day – Jan. 7, 1972 – when William S. Fraser started the 250-watt station, as the promo goes, “from the halls of Jefferson High School.” And it’s blissfully been playing songs older than any current Lafayette Jeff student ever since.
With that in mind, I submit a 50th anniversary edition of an ongoing series: What are the latest songs, 30 years past their prime, to join JEFF92’s rotation of one-hit wonders, deep cuts and pop standards?
Jamie Long – the third director of Lafayette Jefferson High School’s radio and TV program, after WJEF legends Fraser and Randy Brist – had them off the top of his head Friday afternoon, along with the thought behind why they deserved a place with JEFF92.
