WEST LAFAYETTE LOOKS TO REFRESH NEW CHAUNCEY PLAN FOR NEXT ERA
Rewriting a land use plan for the New Chauncey Neighborhood, a constant pressure point for housing and development just east of Purdue’s main campus, should get input from a range of people with stakes in some of the oldest parts of West Lafayette, a city council member proposing an update.
“I would love more people from my district to be as engaged as possible in the process,” Rabita Rajkarnikar, a West Lafayette City Council member appointed earlier this year and who represents the New Chauncey-heavy District 2, said.
“I want to make sure there’s the right representation and enough representation when we are creating the map for the future,” Rajkarnikar said. “It cannot be driven by just one stakeholder.”
On Monday, the city council will consider asking the Area Plan Commission to lead an update to a New Chauncey plan developed in 2013. The land use plan includes block-by-block guides and recommendations for what sort of development is suited for a neighborhood that continues to wrestle with a mix of single-family housing, rental properties and commercial interests.
