WHEN A DEVELOPER UTTERS, TRASH TRANSFER STATION
There aren’t many phrases in a rezoning hearing that will stop a city council meeting in its tracks quite like dropping an unexpected “Trash Transfer Station.”
Heads spun Monday night in Lafayette City Council chambers when a representative for Innovative Engineering and Consulting, a Whitestown firm, said that 37.5 acres along Indiana 38 were slated for trucks in and trucks out hauling residential garbage. That’s why the firm had asked to rezone the ground, just west of a Tractor Supply Co. store on the east side of the city, for industrial use.
“Wait a minute,” Jerry Reynolds, a city council member, said, as dumbfounded council members traded glances and Mayor Roswarski sat forward in his seat in the front row of the chambers.
