WL SCHOOLS LOOK TO GET JUMP ON LARGER PRESCHOOL CONVERSATION

With a longer-range early childhood education study still in the works in West Lafayette, the West Side school board next month will consider establishing a preschool pilot program at its elementary school in time for the August start of the 2024-25 academic year.

“It would give us a chance to try one classroom, get our toes in the water to better understand … and start to fill a gap where there’s a need in the community,” Anna Roth, West Lafayette assistant superintendent, told the school board during a meeting Monday.

The pilot would include one classroom at West Lafayette Elementary School with a minimum of 16 and maximum of 18 students, Roth said. If approved by the school board, registration would open in May for children who are younger than 5 by Aug. 1, 2024, and turning 4 by Dec. 31, 2024.
