WL, schools put Happy Hollow in mix for child care options
West Lafayette study will look at former Happy Hollow elementary, along with other facilities, as well as costs of early education, as press for child care solutions continues

WEST LAFAYETTE STUDY WILL LOOK AT HAPPY HOLLOW AS EARLY CHILD EDUCATION OPTION
West Lafayette school district’s hopes of turning Happy Hollow Elementary into an early child education center or pre-K of some sort after it closed in October 2018 didn’t come together on the first pass, as the district focused on a wave of renovations and expansions of its other facilities.
The former elementary school at 1200 Salisbury St. could be back in play as an option in the community’s emerging push to put child care and early education at the center of workforce issues in Greater Lafayette.
On June 21, the West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission is expected to put out a request for proposals to study whether Happy Hollow, once a school with fourth- through sixth-grade classrooms, is part the answer to chip away at a shortage of available child care.
