WLFI-TV18 SALE FINALIZED, WITH PROMISES TO FCC OF MORE NEWS RESOURCES

WLFI-TV18 officially changed hands last week, as Atlanta-based Gray Media picked up the West Lafayette CBS affiliate along with two other stations from Allen Media Group in part of what originally was going to be a $171 million deal for 10 TV stations across the Midwest and the South.

WLFI was one of three stations – along with WTHI in Terre Haute and WTVA in Columbus, Mississippi – that the Federal Communications Commission agreed to transfer from Allen to Gray, peeling them out from a sale that has been gummed up over an ongoing dispute involving Direct TV in the other seven markets.

According to a November 2025 filing with the FCC, Allen and Gray asked to separate out the sale of WLFI, WTHI and WTVA — stations that had been losing money in recent years but which were in markets that hadn’t faced opposition from Direct TV.

The terms of the sale of WLFI and the two other stations weren’t immediately reported.

Gray Media officials did not immediately respond for comment Monday.

Gary Yoder, WLFI general manager, said Monday that it was too early to talk about what changes could be in the offing under new ownership.

“With the sale just becoming official, everything is quite fluid right now,” Yoder said.
