ZONING PLAN TO SAVE PRIME AG LAND PUT ON HOLD NEAR WEST LAFAYETTE
Tippecanoe County planners tapped the brakes last week on a proposed massive rezoning meant to beef up protections for thousands of acres of farm land north and northwest of West Lafayette.
The Area Plan Commission’s ordinance committee last week asked for a 90-day delay to study the move recommended in 2024 as part of a land use plan for Wabash and Tippecanoe townships.
Members said they were concerned about moving too quickly on the matter, particularly after some landowners said they were just finding out about the proposal and others were already looking to opt out. At the same time, some landowners, hoping to stem the drive for development, said they were ready for the county’s help to do that.
