I’m a sucker for spotting people I see in local commercials out in the wild in Pay Less Super Market aisles or in the same line for pick-up at Revolution BBQ. The “Oh, Yeah” guy from Lafayette Electronic Supply. Assorted sales reps from the Bob Rohrman ads of old. The kids of the audiologist who want to know why grandpa can’t hear them. (“Doesn’t he know how much better life could be?”) So, hats off to the latest local commercial celebrity: Purdue and West Side defensive end George Karlaftis, now starring in a series of spots for DeFouw Automotive. (Thanks, NCAA NIL policy.)

Today’s Based in Lafayette Thread: Tell us about your favorite Greater Lafayette commercial star or celebrity cameo of all time. Old, new … doesn’t matter. Just make it local ads, please.
As always, be cool to each other when responding. And thanks for reading and supporting the Based in Lafayette reporting project.
I had a photoshoot in the Pharmacy building at Purdue, I'm photographing this lady with a crazy familiar voice... and her name was Lola! The Lola, from the Bob Rohrman radio commercials from the 1980's 1990's.
My favorites were always the Rohrman ads around the Haunted Mansion between Bob and Randy Brist. They were always having such fun - and they were always a good laugh for a good cause -Jeff HS.
Mine would be the Gibson Furniture one where the dude hates to shop for furniture. Then he plops himself in this chair and announces to all….”you can buy whatever you want but this is MY chair”
I applaud the owner, Mrs Gibson, for taking on the big franchise furniture stores with her Boswel store.
It makes me feel like I should go buy a lamp or something from her.
There's a big debate in our house. Does Brian actually get to say "chair" at the end of the ad, or does the ad cut him off before he can say what he really needs to say?
Anisa Jones (aka Buffy and Jody) was born in Lafayette, Indiana. Her maternal grandparents were Lebanese, and Jones' middle name means "Little Friend" in Arabic.
At the time of her birth, Jones' father John Paul Jones was an engineering graduate and faculty board member at Purdue University, where her mother Mary Paula Jones (née Tweel) was a zoology student.
The "Don't Get Drilled" Yoder Heating and Cooling family.
This is Gavin...
"...and his other brother Gavin".

In the early aughts, there was a CD Land commercial with two guys just sitting there playing guitar. I loved that one. I can still hum the tune.

I’ll watch more carefully next time and let you know what I think. Also the statement his wife says drives Nancy Sattler crazy.
“I found the couch for the living room I want” instead of “I found the couch I want for the living room”. Awkward….
Always loved the car dealer with actual tiger.
I still call Nate Barrett “Twin City Dodge Boy” even though he’s a grown man and two years younger than me, and running the place now.
