The Democrat, running unopposed, talks about why she’s running, the prep work she’s done while working with outgoing Mayor John Dennis and what she sees for West Side in the next four years.
Interesting that she does not connect more directly the need for affordable housing for families with children to help keep enrollment up at WL schools. And no mention of the referendum on this ballot.
There is a big distinction between small “a” affordable and big “A” affordable. There is certainly a need for both, but having enough supply of housing is the first step, particularly in the WLCSC district where building opportunity is limited and there are many competing challenges for those homes. It is a large reason why we’ve taken a stance on transient guest housing. We need a bigger strategy on housing, one segment alone will not solve our housing issues, which is why we are studying the issue to better understand community need, and to complement the READI housing study.
As for the referendum, I will personally support it with my vote.

I did not ask about the referendum, for what it’s worth.
