A few quick notes for a Friday morning …
THIRD/FOURTH STREETS TWO-WAY CONVERSION GOES LIVE SATURDAY: Lafayette officials announced that Third and Fourth streets through downtown Lafayette will convert from one-way to two-way on Saturday, Nov. 9. Crews on Thursday still had lanes closed and were striping crosswalks and turn lanes on Third and Fourth, between Cincinnati and Alabama streets, in preparation for the end of a project that started this spring.
According to a city post, crews will check traffic lights on Friday before making the switch on Saturday.
The $1.94 million project, once scheduled to be done mid-summer, has been delayed by equipment shipments.
The plans include two-way traffic on Third and Fourth streets, between Wall and Alabama streets, including stretches that run on either side of the Tippecanoe County Courthouse. The city began talking about the project more than a year ago, in a position to convert the streets once they no longer were considered state roads. The state relinquished responsibility for Third and Fourth streets during the first phase of the U.S. 231 bypass project, which was in 2001, according to records kept by the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission.
JURY’S OUT IN DELPHI: Jurors paused deliberations around 3:20 p.m. Thursday, about two hours after they started, after a day of listening to closing arguments in the case against Richard Allen, on trial for the murders of Delphi teens Abby Williams and Libby German. The jury of seven women and five men, selected four weeks ago from Allen County, will resume deliberations at 9 a.m. Friday in Carroll Circuit Court. Here’s a look at Day 18 in the trial, after closing arguments Thursday.

For commuters currently using 9th Street to get to and from the South Side, now you have efficient 4th Street to use instead! Plus, you can get a nice doughnut on your way. You don't have to get stuck in traffic on 9th and Teal any longer.
I fear that we will not be happy with this conversion to 2-way traffic. There have been many times I had to change lanes to avoid a parked truck delivering goods to one of the stores along 3rd or 4th. That will no longer be possible.
I hope I'm wrong.
