A pair of identical bills aimed at blocking, or at least restricting, plans to pump millions of gallons a day from aquifers along the Wabash River in western Tippecanoe County to feed the 9,000-acre LEAP district two counties away died in late January, long before they could get hearings this Indiana General Assembly session.
This week, efforts to salvage one part of those bills – this one aimed at giving farmers some comfort that their irrigation wells would be protected from nearby high-volume pumping – met a similar fate.
