If you canoe on any of the regional waterways, you pass under these rail lines. You see the deteriorating pillars at the water line and the crumble at the top. Rust isn't necessarily a concern, but let's just say these spans could use some attention.

Given that the supporting structure of the bridge didn’t look damaged (from what I could see) it should be a fairly “easy” fix.

Clean up the mess

Inspect for damage

Lay down new wood

Lay down new rails

It looked like that train was carrying some pretty heavy stone, but I can't tell for sure. Maybe from the gravel pits? Perhaps it was just too much weight for that old bridge. In my youth, in the 60s, I crossed that bridge on foot. Nothing like the risk of a fall into the river or a train coming while you were on the bridge to make you feel glad to be alive. I also crossed the Wabash on the ice when it was frozen over from one of the blizzards in the 70s.

Is that the rail line that is used to deliver coal to the Wade Utility Plant? Is that going to be a problem as we enter the heating season? How much coal is Wade burning these days? I spent about 15 seconds with Google trying to figure that out, couldn't, and then got distracted.
