Greg and Nancy Emig, early in the game in Indiana’s craft brew scene, say Dec. 20 will be the last day for LBC. A Q&A about how it started and why it's ending
The Brew Pub really did help change the feel and vibe downtown. In the mid 90s it was a ghost town at night. I say this with certainty, having gone from being the Manager at The Pub to a police officer, where for my first decade I worked the night shift. It’s presence on Main St really helped spark the renaissance downtown.
So about The Pub. Who knew I would be an unknown part of history when I put Sierra Nevada on tap. In order to do so, I had to remove Strohs because we only had a few taps. I certainly couldn’t take Watneys off line!! ;-). We had a keg an a half of Strohs that had to sold off before we could make the switch, so we held a “Farewell to Strohs” bash, but that is a story for another time! ( I still have the tee shirt!)
Thanks for covering the LBC years in Lafayette. I have many memories of the live music provided by Friends of Bob in the upstairs venue!! And the home brewed beer as well!
Thank you, Greg and Nancy, for everything you have poured into this community over the past 32 years. From Taste of Tippecanoe in your very first year to Feast of the Hunters Moon in your last, and through countless festivals, benefit concerts, tours, and donations of product, time, and heart, Lafayette Brewing Co. has always shown up for this community.
You were here before new riverfront licenses brought in others, and you helped make downtown Lafayette a true nighttime destination again.
And a very special thank you for making sure downtown’s cigar-laden Walter was fed every day you were open. You made him like part of the LBC family, and it meant more to many of us than you will ever know.
Thank you for the beer. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the memories. Above all, thank you for caring for Lafayette the way you always have.

Yes!
Until a few seconds ago, I didn't know I needed to hear the story of the "Farewell to Strohs" bash. But now I very much do!
Great interview. I wish the Emigs the best.

Great interview. An institution in downtown Lafayette that will be missed.
And what wrong with kids today....drink more beer!
