Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, "American Girl" -- a song about being "raised on promises" and needing to get out of Dodge, recorded on the actual bicentennial, July 4, 1976 (!!). Okay, it's absolutely tainted with dread by its use in The Silence of the Lambs, but i'm slowly getting over that.

You know I'm a fan.

The weather worries also made me think of the tidy gem "Third of July" by John Prine... come to think of it, some of the Heartbreakers may have played on that track.

This is the season of Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers for me. I will definitely be listening to “Counterclockwise” today as we drive to meet up with friends for a camp out and kayaking.

“The breeze is blowin' me a new perfume

It's givin' my heart a little elbow room

And the kids are lightin' firecrackers

Boom! Boom! Boom!”

Thanks for that. That's a new one for me.

Of COURSE Republican politicians are going to get in the way of registering more people to vote. Disgusting.
