ABOUT THOSE CANDIDATE Q&As
With a few more in the works and invitations to those who missed initial deadlines to weigh in, the bulk of the candidate Q&As in contested races in the May 5 primary on Tippecanoe County ballots should have been in your inboxes late last week and into the weekend.
If not, I’ll collect the lot and post them here for reference, as the second week of early voting starts today at the County Office Building in downtown Lafayette.
How to check who is on your ballot: The Q&As include maps when needed, but I had a few people check in to ask about which Tippecanoe County Council seat or General Assembly seat they needed to pay attention to. A good way to check – and then line everything up against the Q&A in question – is through the Indiana Secretary of State’s portal at www.indianavoters.com. There, you can check who will be on your ballot, based on your address and whether you plan to ask for a Republican or Democratic ballot.

LPD SHOOT MAN OFFICERS SAY WAS BRANDISHING A GUN: Lafayette police officers shot and killed a man early Sunday after LPD says they were called to Stillwell Street in the city’s north end for a report of an intoxicated man pointing a gun at another man. As of Sunday evening, the man had not been identified by the Tippecanoe County coroner. Police say the investigation continued.
According to an LPD release, police say that when they responded at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, officers found the armed man in the street. According to the police account, the man ignored repeated orders to drop the gun before he was shot by police.
No officers were injured, LPD reported.
According the police account, officers involved at the scene were put on administrative leave required by department policy.
STILL IN PLAY: WANT A FREE PASS TO TAP FOR TAF ON BiL?: This year’s Tap for TAF, an annual craft beer event put on as a fundraiser for The Arts Federation on top of the Tippecanoe County Parking Garage, is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. Saturday, April 18, on the top floor of the Tippecanoe County Parking Garage in downtown Lafayette. Based in Lafayette has four tickets and will raffle those off to full-access BiL subscribers on Tuesday.
